Busking in Bath
Part of Cancer Research Awareness Week 20 - 27 June 2009
Students from the Year 10 BTEC Performing Arts course and the Year 12 BTEC National Award course in Music joined the department for a morning of busking in aid of Cancer Research on Tuesday 23rd May 2009.
Emily Eyre, Hattie Eyre, Andreas Feretos, Bethan Graham-Dolman, Matt Jopling, Joe Killeen, Matt Locke, Zoe Moore, James Nash, George Potter, Ollie Prentice and Harry Sayers were the students joining Mr C, Mr G and Miss W.
We joined musicians across the UK, from unsigned bands and ambitious new artists to those seeking the great challenge of learning a musical instrument.
This was a super experience for all involved and was certainly a challenge. Bath was packed and as we set up outside the Cathedral a small expectant crowd gathered. It was not long before we were delighting them with a range of well know cover versions to student compositions. We even finished the set with our own rendition of 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot' - very fitting!
We were in Bath for just 1 hour but in that time we made £97.04. This money goes straight to Cancer Research who are aiming to raise £100,000 from the two Busking weeks (the second in September).
From our point-of-view the opportunity to perform acoustically in Bath was invaluable for the students in developing the confidence needed in a performance situation.
Credit goes to all of them for the level of confidence and maturity they showed during the event and in collecting the money.

A great experience for a worthy cause!
