Dan Moriyama Workshop

15th March 2010

The Year 13 BTEC Music group took part in a workshop with Dan Moriyama on Monday 15th March. Dan’s hugely varied musical career has included working as both a Classical and Jazz pianist, working on the TV show the X Factor and fronting his own band Tomokiyo http://www.myspace.com/tomokiyo.

The students worked on their ensemble pieces which included Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run, the Madness classic Baggy Trousers and Stevie Wonder’s Superstition. Saxophonists Bethan Graham Dolman and Hattie Eyre worked on their respective solos with a particular emphasis on Jazz improvisation. The students raised the bar considerably during the course of the session and Dan was hugely impressed with the wealth of talent he encountered.

The session was specifically planned to help prepare the students for their concert on Tuesday 23rd March for which there are still tickets available!
